Listening to a documentary about the Mayan Civilization having been in North America, the host of the show mentioned, in an off-hand manner, the end of the World in 2012. The man he was talking with descended from Mayan, and quipped back, " 2012 wasn't THE end, but the beginning of the end".
One area of attention that I never really monitored was Space Weather. Coming across mention of an asteroid that missed the Earth by a mere 140,000 approx. miles, caused me to realize that ( even a rather normal ) Cosmic event could end us all. There are a lot of potential life ending possibilities out their in the Cosmos.
One possibility has caught my attention.
Pole reversal.
A pole reversal on Earth has been discussed and from information available it seems that it may be coming.
But the Earth isn't the only Cosmic entity that experiences that phenomenon. Our Sun can experience a pole reversal too. As can any of the Planets.
But how about the entire Solar System?
Pluto has had it's atmosphere collapse. Neptune had a huge storm reverse direction and is experiencing rapid and extreme climate changes. Mars has been having Earthquakes as well. And we need to monitor the gas giants, to see if they display any signs of extreme changes.
What does that mean for us?
Our planet is always in a state of flux. What we are used to could change at anytime.
What would happen if there was some sort of triggering event that caused the Earth to stop rotating or slow down in it's rotation, even if just for a moment?
The atmosphere would keep going...1000 miles an hour, with huge tsunamis sweeping across large portions of land. Maybe there would also be tectonic plate movements, changing the face of the Earth as we know it today.
The Sun blasts out solar flares regularly, even one of those could trigger catastrophic events to our globe.
Something that only recently has come into the arena , Cosmic dust.
