Algal biofuels are also known as Algae Biofuels and can be grown in both salt and fresh water. The fuel is actually a type of oil. Algae creates this oil as a way to create chemical enegery. Combined with heat, it can actually be used as power generation and diesel can be created using this algae oil.
Some questions to ponder and discuss:
Why aren't we using more of this type of oil today since we have an abundance of algae? It could be "farmed" so that we do not destroy natural habitats.
How can the average person use this type of oil in a SHTF or apocalypse scenario?
Another way to use algae as a power source:
The cells in the algae use photosynthesis to convert light into an electric current. Algae produces electrons and some exist outside of the cell. But, how do we harness this electricity to power our devices?
